Ephraim Vause is the father-daughter duo of Tim and Maggie Thornton with musical roots that reach deep into Appalachia. Their music is old time and old timey — Americana with a hillbilly twang. Maggie is a singer and fiddler who started on autoharp. Tim sings and plays guitar, banjo, dulcimer, mandolin and a few other things when the mood strikes him. Maggie and Tim were two-thirds of the Ephraim Vause Memorial String Band, but with the passing of singer and multi-instrumentalist Curtiss Thornton — Tim’s father and Maggie’s grandfather — they’ve gotten out of the habit of performing together. Now they’re getting the band back together under the name Ephraim Vause. Who Ephraim was and why the band was named after him is a story — but you’ll have to see the band to hear it.
