Reed Tradition is dedicated to the music of the Reed family and legendary fiddler Henry Reed. We also feature and give credit to other artists from the Glen Lyn-Rich Creek area where Virginia and West Virginia. Without the work of the late Alan Jabbour recording Henry Reed in the late 1960s, a lot of tunes would have been lost. Reed played a longbow style he learned from Quince Dillion, a fifer and fiddler in the Mexican War and Civil War. Reed Tradition formed from a weekly jam playing for Dean Reed, the last of Henry Reed’s children, before his passing in 2024. Bill Blevins, Chris Via, Matt Peyton, Russ Boyd, Tim Thornton and Addison Dobbs are the members. We also feature Jimmy Costa and other musicians in our state line region.
